omarchy-q2dm1-theme is a custom theme for Omarchy inspired by Quake II’s deathmatch map Q2DM1 — The Edge. The palette is industrial green, rusty steel, and the kind of terminal contrast you can actually see at 2 a.m. — toxic slime and computer panels, not a pastel rice. Wallpaper is the Quake II logo. Icons are a green system and file-manager set. Colors live in colors.toml so the shell, terminal, and accents stay matched.
I built it with the Aether design suite specifically for Omarchy’s theme layout, not as a generic “drop these hex codes into Hyprland.” If you are on Fedora, Mint, or a hand-rolled Hyprland, this repo will not magically become your desktop. It expects Omarchy’s install path (backgrounds/, colors.toml, icons.theme).
Why it exists
Omarchy 4 Quattro already ships a finished Quickshell desktop. The default look is fine. I still want a theme that is mine when I sit at the tiling box for a long editing or terminal session. Q2DM1 is the map I remember for height, metal, and readability — high visibility, not camouflage. This is the fun project in the list on purpose: CoreOS and Rocky pay the bills in the homelab; this one makes the daily driver less generic.
It is also a clean example of installing a third-party Omarchy theme from a Git URL, which is the same motion you use for any other community theme. If you are new to Omarchy, do the OS install first (Safe Graphics / nomodeset if NVIDIA black-screens the live ISO). Theme last.
How to try it
Terminal (fast path):
omarchy theme install https://github.com/TheLinuxITGuy/omarchy-q2dm1-theme
GUI: copy that GitHub URL, open the Omarchy system menu (Super + Space), go to Install → Style → Theme, paste the URL.
Activate: Super + Ctrl + Shift + Space, then pick omarchy-q2dm1-theme from the overlay. That applies terminal colors, shell theme, and icons together. If only the wallpaper changed, you did not finish the selector step.
Repo layout if you want to fork instead of install:
omarchy-q2dm1-theme/
├── backgrounds/
│ └── q2dm1.jpg
├── colors.toml
└── icons.theme
Fork, change colors.toml, install from your URL. Keep the directory names Omarchy expects or the installer will shrug.
How it fits the rest of the site
Daily-driver context: Omarchy 4 Quattro vs Fedora 44, Omarchy vs CachyOS. Small Omarchy fixes that are not theming: Bibata cursor, DaVinci Resolve on Omarchy. None of those posts require this theme; this theme does not require those apps.
What this is not
Not a game, not a Quake II source port, not a GTK theme for GNOME. Not tested as a CachyOS or vanilla Hyprland rice. If Omarchy changes its theme installer, the README on GitHub wins over this page.
